It’s an Adventure!

Here’s something you need to know about Vanguard (or college in general)… Things pick up fast.  This week has been a lot of fun, but now school is starting to pick up, and homework is already bearing down like a bus full of unannounced high-schoolers at a fast food restaurant.  I have a good mix of Kinesiology classes, Intercultural Studies classes, and General Education classes this semester, which makes doing homework a different experience for every class.  For example, in my Intro to Intercultural Studies class, I have to keep a prayer journal for three countries and pray for their needs and what God has in store for them.  That’s a completely different homework experience than doing my multiple-choice, online Chemistry homework for my General Chemistry class.  Pair those classes with a hands-on “Program Design” class, an internship for Kinesiology, and “World Civilizations”, and that makes homework an adventure all in itself.

Living at Vanguard is kind of an adventure too.  So many people here have Disneyland passes that random Disneyland trips happen fairly often.  Last Friday was one of those days for me.  I was sitting outside the Cafeteria at lunch on Friday, planning on doing nothing with my life, when a couple of my friends were walking around and asked if I had a Disneyland pass.  This random conversation turned into a fun day at the park going from “Pirates of the Caribbean” to “Space Mountain”; the “Hollywood Tower of Terror”, to a couple other rides.  Later that weekend I went on a “Brother/Sister Floor Hike” with some guys on my floor and some girls from the 7th floor of the freshman girls’ dorm.  We went hiking at Crystal Cove, right off of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), by the beach.  The scenery was beautiful with an awesome ocean view in what I believe to be the most beautiful part of that area.  We hiked a few miles up into the foothills off of PCH, and I had a great time exploring.

I’ve been an RA for two weeks now, and I can’t even begin to describe how much I’ve learned throughout this process.  Talking to people about life, God, and everything that comes along with that has taught me a ton about people and about myself.  Every day is a new lesson and new experience where God continues to teach me how this life works.  All this is to say, being a student at Vanguard is always full of adventure.
